Winter steelheading continues to be slow on the Siletz despite the ideal conditions and dropping river levels over the weekend. There are still fish being caught everyday but it has been tough. The river remains in good shape for the weekend with good color. Mid-February to mid-March is typically the peak for Siletz steelheading.
The 4.0 mile bridge (aka Steel Bridge) in the Siletz gorge is open to motorized vehicles on the weekends only. Anglers can walk/bike in the road during the weekdays. There is a parking area located at the 1-mile gate where anglers can walk/bike upstream from there.
In this video, local biologists John Spangler and Paul Olmstead in Newport take you boat fishing on the Siletz River.
