Summer steelhead fishing on the Wilson has been slow this year, recent resting pool counts confirmed that numbers are down this year. That said we did see a few summers around, dispersed throughout the river. Normally September can be a good month to target these fish as water temperatures start to drop, swimming pressure lets up, and fish that have been holding get more active, but with the low numbers it is probably still going to be tough fishing. For those still wanting to target these fish; covering lots of water will probably be the key to success.

Cutthroat trout fishing is open in the Wilson River as well. This year’s resting pool counts found above average numbers of cutthroat throughout the Wilson this year, and some good concentrations if some pools.

Fall Chinook opened in the Wilson on Aug. 1, but the fishing is slow and there probably won’t be much happening above tidewater until we get some rain later in the fal
