Attention Boaters: There is an impassable boating hazard on the Necanicum River between Klootchie county park and the Hwy 101 boat ramps. (Exact location 45.96553, -123.92740). Boaters should avoid this obstruction for the time being.
The hatchery winter steelhead run on the Necanicum River is winding down, and numbers of bright fish will be low. Wild steelhead (catch-and-release only) will continue to come in through March. The Necanicum is very low and clear and will remain so until we get a good rain. When fishing low and clear water, using smaller, subtle presentations and stealthy tactics will improve your chances of success. In addition, fish will be holding in different areas than during ideal flows; target the head of deep pools and any pocket water where you can’t see the bottom.
