Summertime heat and fishing both heat up!

We’re definitely starting to see a pick up in tourist as we’re coming off a slower than usual June. During the middle of the day the city looks like a ghost town as the heat is driving everyone either to the beach or indoors, but the mornings and evenings are just incredible.

The typical morning coromuel winds are up in the morning tailing off by 10am or so. Then just brace yourself for hot hot hot. Bait isn’t a problem sardines are being sold at both Tecolote and Partida. These are the largest sardines I’ve seen and plentiful so the pangeros will load you up at no extra cost.

The daily catch rate is definitely stabilizing as the water temperatures are normalizing and clearing up.

Fish Talk

The Dorado are the main story, in open water their usually paired up meaning 1 male and 1 female. If you find floating debris or get out to the buoys early you can be limited out in minutes. Although these fish are mixed in size they are predominantly large ranging from 25-45 lbs.

With that said most other species striped Marlin, Sailfish, are all on the chew. Trolling medium size plastics or site fishing for tailing fish and pitching a live Mack will do the trick.

I personally went fishing on Thursday down to the south end of Cerralvo.

My target was wahoo. As usual that area is full of Spearos sitting most of the day on the spots we want to troll but be patient, as they drift off you get a chance to make a few passes. I hooked up twice and unfortunately lost both fish. One shook the hook right at the gaff which I estimated at over 100 lbs.This would have been my personal best, but it’s always the big one that gets away I guess.

Anyway that bite is early and shuts down by 10am.

Great fighting and incredible table

Tuna are being found off punta Pescadero. This is out of range for daily charters but they should continue to move North. We are still getting pods of 60-80 pound class yellowfin. The challenge is they won’t stay in one place longer then a day. We offer multiple day trips on our live aboard where we anchor much closer to where these fish are being caught, if you have interest in that please inquire at the office.

The next few weeks should really determine what the season will look like so we will keep you informed.
