Fishing is generally best when flows are below 3,000 cfs. Currently flows are around 920 cfs at the Waterloo gage. Approximately 25,000 Chinook have crossed over Willamette Falls with about 2,500 of these fish being counted at Foster Dam and fish ladder.
A few dozen summer steelhead have already shown up below Foster, but the overall number of fish is still low. Fishing for smallmouth bass can be very good during the warm months below Lebanon.
NOTICE: Hoot-owl regulations in effect for the entire river above and below Foster Reservoir. This means that fishing is closed from 2 p.m. until one hour before sunrise due to drought conditions and above average water temperatures.
Trout fishing reopened May 22. Anglers are reminded that only fin-clipped trout are allowed to be kept.
