They’re always at the top of the Recreation Report in the zone where they’re happening.

Best bets for weekend fishing:

• Coho are making their way into the Sandy and Clackamas rivers.
• Limited fisheries for wild coho have opened in the Tillamook, Nestucca, Siletz and Coos basins.
• Recent rains have started moving Chinook from the bays into the rivers on the north and central coasts.
• On the south coast, Chinook anglers have been enjoying a good season on the Rogue.
• Cooler temperatures are putting trout on the bite including resident fish in rivers and streams, holdover trout from earlier stockings in lakes and reservoirs, and newly stocked trout in locations that boast fall stocking.
• Sturgeon anglers have additional retention days on Sept. 25 (this Saturday!) and Wednesday, Sept. 29.
• On the central coast, Pacific halibut is now open 7 days a week with a two-fish daily bag limit. 

The best season for crabbing is right now

Fall is typically the best time of year to crab. Beginning in September, crabs will have filled out with more meat, and you’ll find more crabs in bays and estuaries thanks to drier weather. Pick up some pointers about how to crab.
